Definition

A block is a defensive action at the net where one or more players deflect or stop an opponent's attack attempt. A block kill directly wins the point; a block touch redirects the ball to remain in play. Blocks per set is the primary stat used to evaluate a player's net presence.

Types of blocks

Block Kill

Ball lands in-bounds on the opponent's side after the block. Direct point won.

Block Touch

Block redirects the ball but it remains playable. The rally continues.

Solo Block

One player deflects the attack alone.

Team Block

Two or three players form a wall together. Each player receives credit.
